Card fees: any charge above also passes through the two card fees we actually get billed, at cost — the City of Chicago’s own payment-portal fee (2.2%, which the City adds to every ticket paid by card) and our processor’s (2.9% + $0.30). For example, a $150 ticket we pay on your behalf comes to $158.19: $150.00 to the City, $3.30 to the City’s portal, and the rest to Stripe. These are the card networks’ fees, not service fees: for Pro, our per-event service fees are still $0.

By the end of your paid year, every Chicago ticket should be ticket-free, paid on time before doubling or boot enforcement, or contested and dismissed. The face value of a Chicago ticket is yours. Every penny the city stacks on top of it is ours: if an eligible ticket doubles on our watch, we pay the late penalty. If your car gets booted over one, we pay the boot, the tow, and the storage.

What we guarantee costs more than we do.
Chicago bills the average ticketed driver $319 a year. $107 of that is the part The Better-Off Guarantee puts our own money behind: $107 of late penalties, plus the boot — and the tow and storage that follow it — the city adds when time runs out, plus $37 of city-sticker and expired-plate tickets — the renewals we file for you, and pay for outright if we miss one. Per ticketed Chicago driver, billed basis, 3-yr avg 2022–24 — the City's own money columns from FOIA F118906-110325, ÷ 883,240 ticketed plates. An average, not a promise about your year: what's guaranteed is that we pay these charges if they land on you. It excludes a further $14 a year of tow exposure we don't cover — a tow zone, a snow route, an abandoned-vehicle tow. Those happen whether or not a ticket was ever involved, so we don't promise against them. The tow we do cover is the one that follows a boot.
